Château de Saint-Maclou is a romantic and luxurious 17th Century Château, providing four double bedrooms (all en suite) for Chambres d´Hôtes (or Bed & Breakfast). Built in 1605, the Château has been completely redecorated to an extremely high standard in 2008, and is furnished throughout with period antiques, family heirlooms and fine furniture. The walls are hung with tapestries and paintings, giving the place an extra-special and lived-in quality, a real family home. There are four large reception rooms, all with working fireplaces, where guests are free to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and savour the interesting history of the house. Breakfast is served in the Old Kitchen, with its huge walk-in fireplace, decorated with gleaming copper pots and pans, where all the cooking and food preparation was done for over four centuries. There is also a working spit, that revolves slowly with the help of pulleys and a heavy weight. The château is only one room thick, and so there are great views out over the gardens and park from windows on each side of the building. There is an 18th century Colombier in the park that was once home to four thousand doves.
