I booked 2 rooms at Harris Batam Centre from 21 to 23 Jan 2023. Understandably it is Chinese New Year, hence the price was raise significantly. I dont mind paying the price because Harris is a trusted brand. However, my stay felt like i am staying in a 1 star hotel. When i booked thru Agoda, i requested for a non-smoking room due to my asthmatic wife condition. We were greeted by the receptionist who stated that all non-smoking rooms is unavailable. They offered to cleanup the air in the room so neutralised the smell. I accepted it and requested them to do it while we went go our late lunch since it only takes 15 minutes. However, after we returned from our lunch and went back to the room, it was not done. We called the receptionist to do up the room. They come immediately and did up the room while we waited in our connecting room. The whole process on the 2 rooms took 30 minutes and we are left with no choice but to wait. Once they are done, we came back to our room but the aircon cannot be switched on. Interestingly, each room come with its own aircon unit and not a central one like most 3 or 4 star hotels. Again we called the receptionist and ask for help. The maintenance person came and did some adjusting. The aircon was switched on but after 10min, the room was still stuffy. I called the receptionist and requested to change room. It was changed after 30mins of waiting. I also expect the hotel corridors and lift to be airconditioned but it is not. Our new room (214), was working fine except that the only powerpoint to charge our handphones works intermittenly. Again, such unserviceable issues frustrate anyone who paid in total $774 for 2 rooms for 2 nights. This is unacceptable. Please look into the serviceability of the hotel. Its a shame for such brand to have so many issues.
