Welcome to De Hartelust! My house was built in Dutch farm-style but with today's standards. It's situated at the edge of the city which makes it a rural oasis. The house is located in a recreational area, has a lovely green garden and meadows with goats. The apartments all are spacious with their own bathroom and kitchen. Bikes can be used freely so you can visit Amsterdam the Dutch way. You will be pleased to find out how easy it is to visit Amsterdam by bike. Cycling from my place you will pass the Westergasterrain with pubs, restaurants and cinema. You will than enter the Jordaan, Amsterdam's most lovely area with smaller houses and lots of small shops and markets. Gradually you will pass all the beginnings of all the canals so you can easily navigate your way through the city-center. After about half an hour you will reach the central station and the mainsquare of Amsterdam; Damsquare. The city is bicycle-friendly with many separate bike-lanes and asfalt. I am Jochum, proud owner of a big house with several apartments in it. My background is from organic farming and furniture making so I enjoy being outside and working with my hands. The regular contact with guests is something that comes to me naturally, I enjoy seeing people happy with their stay. I can be open to small talk or deeper conversations, but I usually keep my distance. I am always curious though about different cultures and views. I have few bias against people because my guests have shown me we're not all that different. The name De Hartelust means Heart's Desire. I have been building on my place for many years and have made it home for my guests as well. Feel free to ask me anything or start a conversation, be welcome. Amsterdam needs little introduction but I am happy to advise some things to see, or places to eat. Realize that the Anne-Frank's house requires reservation ahead! I would advise everyone to check out the main attractions like the Van Gogh museum and Het Rijksmuseum. But mainly I would advise people to just wander or cycle around through the little streets, parks and canals and get lost. Amsterdam is a beautiful city with so much to do that you can roam around to your heart's desire.
