Mikes Camp is set on Kiwayu Island, Said to be the most beautiful island on the lamu archipeligo. Kiwayu Island is in the Kiunga National marine reserve meaning that all flora and fauna is protected. Kiwayu Seperated from the mainland by a sizable yet narrow creek, and on the mainland the wilderness stretches out protected as it is situated in the Dadori and Kiunga National wildlife reserves. The long thin island is made up of ancient sand dunes seven miles of beach. There are two small villages on the island holding up to 500 local Swahili people. Kiwayu Island is and hour and a half by speed boat from lamu to get here. Or a 15 minute flight both include incredible scenery along the way. Nairobi is an hour’s flight away via airlines(view how to get here) We are 2 degrees south of the equator and, although tropical, the climate is far less humid then other Kenyan coastal areas, almost cool at some times in the year (look at Kiwayu Seasons)
