The Allan Ramsay Hotel (est. 1792) is one of Scotland's oldest coaching inns, named in honour of the celebrated Scots Poet, Allan Ramsay (1684-1758). The inn is located in the picturesque village of Carlops, nestled at the foot of the Pentland Hills, only 20 minutes from Edinburgh. The inn retains its 18th century character with antique decorations, a small library, a charming candle-lit restaurant and real log fires. This traditional Scottish country inn is a cosy home-from-home and offers a welcome stop for the traveller. It is a quiet retreat and a friendly place to meet and is a great location for those wishing to explore the surrounding Scottish Borders countryside or a convenient base from which to experience the City of Edinburgh. The Hotel has four comfortable ensuite guests rooms on the upper floor which offer single, double, twin and family occupancy. There is also a lovely self-contained apartment on the ground floor which sleeps 6. It comprises one double bedroom with an ensuite shower room, a second double bedroom and a twin room plus a comfortable lounge, kitchen and a bathroom with shower.
