    The Alexanderplatz is the most famous square in Berlin and is called “Alex” among the inhabitants of Berlin. This square was named after the Russian tsar Alexander the first. Back in time the purpose of Aleksanderplatz was to hold the cattle markets and be the drill and parade ground for the nearby barracks. Only in the 1960s, was the Alexanderplatz was given its present appearance. Today it is one of the main transport hubs in Berlin as well as one of the most well known urban spaces in Germany. The Alexanderplatz train station has several S-bahn and U-Bahn lines. Aleksanderplatz also connects roads such as Alexander Street, the Otto-Braun-Strasse and Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse. Outside the train station are bus- and tram stops. The main attractions here are the world clock and the Fountain of Friendship of Nations. On the other side of the train station is the tallest building in the capital and the whole Germany - Berlin TV Tower. Next to it are the Red Town hall, St. Mary’s Church and the Neptune Fountain.
