    Chichester Harbour (Chichester, United Kingdom)

Chichester Harbour is a natural harbour situated to the south-west of the city of Chichester. It extends just over the border into Hampshire, as far as Hayling Island in the east. The Hampshire town of Havant is close to the northern coast of the harbour. Villages located along the harbour’s edge include Emsworth, Thorney Island, Fishbourne, Bosham, Birdham and Itchenor among others. The harbour is maintained by Chichester Harbour Conservancy. Chichester Harbour is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where many species of bird make their home, in particular waders. In addition, several thousand Brent geese spend the winter there. The harbour is therefore a popular place for bird watchers who can take advantage of the many footpaths or go on a boat trip round the harbour in winter. The harbour is also renowned as a place for sailing, and there are sailing clubs in twelve locations in the area. These include Emsworth Slipper Sailing Club, Chichester Cruiser Racing Club and West Wittering Sailing Club. West Wittering has the only sandy beach in West Sussex, which attracts many visitors. A cycle route links West Wittering to Chichester.
