Muir Woods National Monument (Mill Valley, USA)

Muir Woods National Monument is a remnant of the coastal redwood forests and it is one of the last uncut stands of ancient redwoods. President Theodore Roosevelt declared the area as a national monument in 1908 and named it in honor of John Muir, a Scottish born conservationist. It is located 12 miles north of Golden Gate Bridge through U.S. 101 and California 1 routes and there is no public transport services to the park. It has a gift shop and a visiting centre, including self-guiding nature trails with entrance fees for 17 years old and up, which opens from 8AM to sunset all year. The park is being managed by Golden Gate National Recreation Area as part of the 380 parks in the US National Park System.
