Münchner Christkindlmarkt (Munich, Germany)
The Christkindl Market in Munich dates back to the 17th century when it was known as “Nicholas Market”, since the early 19th century it has been known under its current name. During the advent several Christmas Markets are held in Munich but with a coverage of around 20,000 square metres the Christkindl Market is not only the biggest but also the most popular. Traditionally the market is held in the heart of the city at the Marienplatz from where it extends into the surrounding streets. The stalls on the market offer a broad variety of local food specialities, traditional Christmas tree decorations, wooden toys, handmade candles, mulled wine, sweets, clothing and more. A live concert with festive music is held at the Town Hall daily at 5.30 pm, other special events are also held during the duration of the market.
