    Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (Vienna, Austria)

The Naturhistorisches Museum Wien or in English the Museum of Natural History of Vienna houses one of the largest and oldest natural history collections in the world. The earliest collections at the museum date back over 250 years, by the end of 2006 there were over 20 million different objects catalogued in the collection. This is considered to be one of the most important collections of its kind in the world. The museum opened in 1889 and includes 8,700 m² of floor space. Each of the floors is dedicated to a different section of the natural world, the first floor is full of mammals whilst another floor is set aside for insects, each and every one carefully catalogued and arranged in zoological order. Amongst the most interesting exhibits are those relating to extinct species and some of the most popular exhibits include the skeleton of a Diplodocus dinosaur and a 200 million year old Steller sea-cow. The Museum is open daily (except Tuesday). The admission price for a single adult is 8 Euros.
