Prince William Forest Park (Triangle, USA)

Prince William Forest Park, located near Triangle, was originally established as the Chopawamsic Recreation Demonstration Area in 1936 and renamed in June 1948. It has an area exceeding 15,000 acres, making it the largest natural park in ther Washington D.C. area and also the largest area of Piedmont forest managed by the NPS. The park served as training grounds for the Office of Strategic Services from 1942 to 1945 and includes much of the Quantico Creek watershed. The park includes remnants of the Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine and Greenwood gold mine. Cabin, tent and RV camping options are available and there are approximately 34 km of bicycling trails and 60 km of hiking trails. Facilities include a Visitor Centre which is open from 09h00 to 17h00 daily and offers interpretive programs and exhibits relating to the park’s resources.
