The Palacio Real de Madrid or the Royal Palace of Madrid is also referred to as Palace Orient. It is the official residence of the King of Spain, although King Juan Carlos and his family do not actually reside here. This palace is mostly used for state occasions. The Palacio Real is one of the largest in all of Western Europe. It is located on Bailén street in the western part of downtown Madrid and is therefore easily accessible by car, bus or train, the nearest station being Opera metro station.
