The Old Lighthouse (Dungeness, United Kingdom)

This “old” lighthouse at Dungeness is no longer functional, having been replaced by the “new” lighthouse in 1961. A listed building, dating from 1904, it is an imposing 46m high and a distinctive black and white landmark on the Dungeness shingle foreland. Inside, the Victorian workings and fittings are preserved. Visitors can climb to the top for a fine view along the coast and out over the Channel. There is a shop and car park on site and refreshment facilities nearby. Opening hours vary throughout the year and are listed on the website. Access to the top is not possible for the disabled. The viewing platform at the top is closed in bad weather. It is easiest to visit by car, but a novel way to get there is by the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch miniature steam railway, which stops right beside the lighthouse.
