Abington Park (Northampton, United Kingdom)

Abington Park was opened in 1897 and is now Northampton’s biggest and most popular park. It stretches on either side of Park Road South with the Abington Park Museum, the parish church, tennis courts, bowling greens, bandstand and aviary on the upper area and a wide expanse of parkland and woodland including a large lake, a children’s playground and the archaeological remains of a disused medieval village on the lower area. Sports facilities are available with football, rugby and hockey pitches available for hire on a per-match basis and an indoor tennis hall available on a per hour basis. Outdoor tennis and bowling can also be enjoyed and prices for all activities are available on the Northamptonshire Borough Council website. Special events take place throughout the year including concerts and fun-fairs. Entrance to the park is free throughout the year and regular Sunday bandstand performances take place, again without charge. Refreshments are available.
