Central Pier (Blackpool, United Kingdom)

This is one of three piers in Blackpool. It opened in May 1868, five years after the first pier was opened (North Pier). It was designed by Lieutenant-Colonel John Isaac Mawson but built by Richard Laidlaw and Son of Glasgow, the same contractors that were responsible for the construction of the North Pier. The emphasis of this Central Pier was on entertainment and a dance hall, theatre and bars were built. In 1986 the original Pierhead Theatre was renovated and re-named Peggy Sue’s Showboat. A Ferris wheel was also added around this same time.
